JEEVANI
CENTRE FOR STUDENT WELL-BEING

Jeevani-centre for student wellbeing implemented by Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala in technical collaboration with National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. Mental health problems are very common among college students. They are vulnerable to mental health problems because they are experiencing a double transition: a developmental transition from adolescence to adulthood, and a life transition from one institution to another which is often very different. Learning can be hindered by student’s mental health. In recent years, there has been an increase in symptoms of depression, anxiety, substance abuse and other mental illness in college student population. Simultaneously, there has been a steady rise in the demand for counseling services. The help of a Psychologist would be very valuable at this stage. Here comes the relevance of the project Jeevani by the Department of collegiate Education ,Government of Kerala, which focuses on the mental well-being of the students in the government colleges in Kerala. Project Jeevani intends to improve awareness and promotion of mental health among college students along with ensuring early identification of psychological issues among these students. Jeevani Centre for Student Well-being has been functioning in Government Arts and Science college, Thazhava since October 2021. Jeevani Centre of this college provides counseling services on all working days from 9.30 am to 4pm., which is located in the college General Library building. Confidentiality of the information shared by the students in counseling sessions is ensured.
